The Rotary Club of Montreal-Lakeshore meets for lunch every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Airport, 6700 Trans-Canada Highway, Pointe-Claire (Montreal), Quebec.
The club is located off the Trans-Canada, on the south side, at the corner with Boul. St-Jean.
Our meetings are a forum of fellowship between members and their guests as well as frequent visitors and visiting Rotarians from other clubs. At about 12:15 members start to arrive, mingling and perhaps ordering a drink. The guest speakers set-up their podium or screen or whatever props they will need for their presentation. The official meeting usually starts promptly with the strike of the bell at 12:30, followed by the introduction of the head table which is usually comprised of the president and his guests as well as the speaker of the day. Following this all visitors and guests are introduced and welcomed, then a grace is offered by a member and a toast is raised by another. Usually the lunch is served at the table or possibly a buffet style. During the meal members enjoy lively and interesting discussions at their tables. At about 1p.m. the president asks the sergeant at arms to solicit happy dollars or to fine members who have missed some protocol or bylaws or just because he feels like teasing them; Then some members announce progress of different projects and club involvements. At about 1:15p.m. the guest speaker is introduced and invited to make his or her presentation which usually lasts about 15-20 minutes allowing for a 10 minute question period and a bilingual rendition of O' Canada closes the meeting before 2p.m.. The guest speakers are usually very interesting and subjects can range from light ones like magicians and psychics to very serious matters like World governance or Kyoto's Environmental implications.
